1. Organization:

The Directorate of Social Welfare is headed by the Director,Who is also Ex-Officio Joint Secretary and is assisted by the Dy. Director& two Assistant Directors, a Social Welfare Officer, a Statistical Officer, besides Accounts and Administration branches respectively. Out of two Assistant Directors one is holding charge of Backward Classes branch and the other of Disabled branch. The Social Defence Branch is headed by a Social Welfare Officer.

2. Functions:

The Directorate of Social Welfare deals with the implementation of Schemes for the welfare of Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes, the Differently abled persons (Disabled), Senior Citizens, Destitutes, Prisoners and their dependents, Safai Karmacharis and Beggars.

Goa Electronics Ltd. Is a subsidiary of Economic Development Corporation Ltd. This agency is engaged by the Department to run a Call Centre for Dayanand Social Security Scheme. Goa Electronics Ltd. also conducts survey of the applications received under Dayanand Social Security scheme.

The Goa State SC, OBC Finance and Development Corporation:

The Goa State SC and OBC Finance Development Corporation is implementing various economic betterment schemes for the welfare of Scheduled Castes and Other Backward Classes of the State of Goa. This Corporation was established in the year ______.

The Goa State Scheduled Tribe Finance and Development Coproration.

The Goa State ST Finance and Development Corporation was established in the year 2004-05. This Corporation is implementing various welfare schemes for the Scheduled Tribes of Goa.

Backward Class Commission:

The Goa State Backward Class Commission was set up in the year _____ under the Goa State Backward Classes Act, 1993. This Commission recommends the State Government for inclusion or deletion of Backward Classes in the State list of Backward Classes.

District Disability Rehabilitation Centre:

District Disability Rehabilitation Centre has been set up at Goa Medical College Complex, Bambolim. The Centre provides the required quality type, durable, sophisticated and scientifically manufactured modern Aids and appliances to the persons with Disabilities.
